If you are using your event finder to search for the top sports events today, Slovakia events or sports events tomorrow, then, the Women’s World Floorball Championships 2017 should be among the exciting sport events December 2017. Just so you know floorball is an interesting sport that has gradually made headlines in the local sports arena. The exact origins of the game are not exactly known because Canada, Sweden and the USA all claim to have invented the sport. However, the first floorball game took place in 1968 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Interestingly, the countries of Canada and USA had earlier played a similar game in the 1950s. The sport goes by different names in the mentioned countries. For instance, the Canadians referred to it as ball hockey while the floorball USA was referred to as Cosom hockey. The term “hockey” must have gotten your attention! We all know how a hockey game looks like; floorball is simply a form of hockey but it’s played indoors, on the floor. Each team fields five players and of course two goalkeepers to represent each team. You can follow this year games in Pictcha app the new social network developed for event lovers to follow favorite events. Though floorball hasn’t penetrated the Olympic and Paralympic championships yet, its attendance can only be compared to all other Europe events. No one would have ever imagined that a sport that began as a school fun game would grow into one of the best winter events. The sport goes by many names including salibandy, innebandy and unihockey; they all however refer to a sport that uses floorball sticks to hit a plastic floorball ball. These sticks are notably shorter than ice hockey sticks.  After the formation of the first floorball club in Sweden in 1979, a rulebook was later written in the year 1981. The present floorball rules allow for the participation of six players who can be substituted in the course of the game. The game is played for three periods, each lasting 20 minutes and with two referees for overseeing the game. There are rules which define fouls and conditions for penalties.

Since its development in the 1960s and 70s, floorball has become popular in the USA, Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and Japan. The increased popularity is the reason behind the anticipated 11thWomen’s World Floorball Championships. The sport has also gained global recognition and is usually managed by the international floorball Federation. The body organizes top Floorball events in the world including the Euro Floorball cup and the tournament of champions which is held every two years. The IFF was founded by countries that had a floorball association at the time. These were Sweden, Switzerland and Finland; the body has since grown to include 40 countries. The body aims at having floorball as one of the top world events by ensuring its inclusion in world Olympics and Paralympics championships. There have been a couple of successful IFF championships this year starting with the men under 19 world Floorball championships to the U19 WFC that happened in May and the 7thIFF floorball champions cup which ended in October. Since December 2017 is here, all floorball fans are looking forward to a tournament of power at the IFF world championships 2017. Telling from the event photography in the 11th edition of the men’s world floorball championships 2016, which was held in Latvia, the event drew great multitudes in the two venues that hosted the sport; most people struggled to get viewing spots at the Arena Riga which was the main event center. The winning teams came from Finland, Sweden and Switzerland. Slovakia which is hosting the event this year came in the 9th position. This year’s Women’s World Floorball Championships will be held in Bratislava, Slovakia from date 1-9 December, 2017. The 2017 tournament will see the participation of 16 teams with China and Thailand making the very first appearance in the event. Considering the current popularity of the game, it is only natural for floorball fans to worry about the capacity of the event center. The good news is that, the OndrejNepela Arena in Bratislava has a capacity of about 10,000. The event center is commonly used for ice hockey events. Since its opening in 1940, the event center has hosted some exciting Europe events both sporting and music events. Being the host, the Slovakian women team will not have to enter the final round of the sport via the set qualifications. However, the other teams will have to battle for a spot in the 6 qualification groups; the six groups will include 4 teams from Europe, 1 team from the Americas and the last one from Asia-Oceania.
